Balancing the books without compromising on the fundamentals of
passenger and personnel safety is one of the challenges that all
businesses dealing with passenger transport and operating fleets of
coaches need to face, especially in these hard economic times. One
excellent way to meet these demands is to fit good retreaded tyres such
as the new Marix MD Extra. On coaches that travel intercity routes, cost
savings of around 40% can be acheived when compared to similar new
tyres – all without losing out in terms of quality.
Made specifically for the drive wheels of intercity coaches, Marix MD
Extra is a universal 295/80 R22.5 drive tyre that guarantees maximum
performance all year round and in any weather. A five-groove tread with
specific block sculptures and longitudinal channels guarantees maximum
grip in all road conditions, good stability, quick and effective water
drainage and excellent road hold throughout the tyre’s life. All
obviously without neglecting the economic aspects, given that Marix MD
Extra ensures very high mileage.
Then add in the fact that the tyre is manufactured by a company like
Marangoni, which for over half a century has been synonymous with
retreading, and the result is a product made with maximum technical
skill. For bus and coach tyres, for example, Marangoni designs specific
compounds than can satisfy all the various requirements: resistance to
twisting forces exerted on the tyres when changing direction in tight
spaces and when steering at a standstill, resistance to impact on the
tyre sidewalls, as well as chafing and abrasion, and low rolling
resistance meaning a significant reduction in fuel consumption.
From a quality point of view, modern retreads feature performance that’s
comparable to that of new tyres. Since 2006 retreads for buses and
coaches need to be UN ECE 109 approved, in other words they have to pass
the same tests applied to new tyres to verify their sturdiness,
reliability and working life. Marangoni obtained such approval in 1999.
The use of retreads also represents an important contribution to
safeguarding the environment, allowing casings that are still intact to
be reused even two or three times. A solution that’s both ecological and
economical, as already testified by municipal transport companies in
large Italian cities such as Milan, Turin, Genoa and Verona. These
companies trust Marangoni, knowing they can count on a custom retreading
service that, among other things, includes technical support and
specific consulting for the choice of the most suitable tread pattern.
The Marix brand, introduced by the Marangoni Group several years ago to
denote retreads for cars, light commercial vehicles and 4x4s, will soon
be used for all retreads manufactured by the Rovereto company and
consequently also for tyres to be used on industrial vehicles, quarry
and site machinery, buses and coaches and earthmoving equipment. The
retreading process implemented at the Marangoni facilities in Rovereto
to produce the Marix tyres has for some time now included the most
advanced quality procedures at all levels. As well as compulsory
approvals, Marangoni has achieved various certifications such as ISO
9001:2008 for quality and ISO 14001:2004 for environmental management.
